Post Match report for the Burnley game - Friday, 6th November 2020

PREMIER LEAGUE 20/21: Brighton v Burnley - 6/11/20, P8.

ALBION REGISTER A FIRST FAIL TO SCORE STAT

RESULT: 0-0 . SHAPE: 4-4-2

VENUE: the Amex, Falmer - fourth home match of eight fixtures to date.
No fans would attend under current full epidemic lockdown restrictions throughout November.
BUILD UP: stay at home support contemplated life in the bottom six as being the old new normal during this belated first quarter period. Another international break loomed next week as yet again the Prem holds in abeyance, while domestic league position remains glaringly static.
By end of the month a die would be cast for how things might conclude in May.
WEATHER: cold but still & dry evening.

GRAHAM POTTER invoked man management skills and sporting life experience prior to picking tonites starting eleven. He used empathy, understanding, toleration and relationship dynamics to formulate a comprehensive solution at kickoff.
Maupay & Ryan came back into the fold. Welbeck now started and Steele returned among subs. Fit again Jahanbakhsh sat among substitutes but Zeqiri did not. Sanchez dropped right out. March & Trossard were listed injured.

INCIDENTS: 5 - visitors hit the bar. 58 - Ref is alerted by VAR to possible Burnley handball.
79 - VAR check for Brighton handball.

YELLOWS: 85 - Bissouma.

SUBS: 83 - Jahanbakhsh for Veltman. 86 - Connolly for Welbeck.

SYNOPSIS: hosts eventually got into stride and racked up numerous attacking stats. Visitors plugged away and tested home rearguard on occasions. Clarets rearguard was up against it at times but the keeper coped well when called upon to maintain nil-nil.
At the interval travellers had completed half their game plan, while locals wondered quite how, given home advantage and unbalance between each forward play figures.
The away outfit started brightly after turnaround in search of the opener. The first goal was going to be crucial for obvious reasons. Albion began to tighten the proverbial screw around the hour mark, although it was still a loose fit.
Potter put on late subs as momentum slowed. Fellow Prem strugglers were hanging on for the draw.
Hosts still rolled it about but the ball did not enter the net.
MoM: Lallana, useful quality all over.

NUMBERS: poss 60%-40%, on target 3-1, off target 16-3, corners 5-3, fouls 11-5, yellows 1-0, subs 2-2.

CONCLUSION: the team is treading water, seemingly unable to beat any level of opposition whether scoring one or two goals, or as today nil - which was not going to count factually anyway.
