Post Match report for the Wolves game - Saturday, 7th March 2020
PREMIER LEAGUE: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Brighton - 7/3/20, P29.
ALBION IN RARE STALEMATE ON TRAVELS
RESULT: 0-0 . SHAPE: 4-3-3
REF: a straightforward ninety odd minutes of invisible authority.
PRE-KICKOFF: going back to Molineux, in Waterloo Road, was something of a historical battlefield tour for Brighton fans from the Withdean era, when this stadium once represented an icon for which to aspire.
Passing of much time since those new century seasons merely magnified true significance of returning in the near future.
GATE: 31,490 . WEATHER: cloudy & breezy.
GRAHAM POTTER remained steadfast & stoical, keeping calm and carrying on, with reflections of British satirical movie Up the Khyber brought to mind as hostile fire continued to pour onto his position.
The starting eleven from defeat last Saturday at the Amex resumed in more compact formation.
South American import Mac Allister sat among substitutes.
TEAM . . . . . . . . . . 1 Ryan
. 22 Montoya, 15 Webster, 5 Dunk, 33 Burn
. . . . 8 Bissouma, 18 Mooy, 24 Propper
. . . . . 20 March, 7 Maupay, 11 Trossard
BENCH: 27 Button, 4 Duffy, 6 Stephens (89), 10 Mac Allister (80), 13 Gross, 16 Jahanbakhsh (82), 17 Murray.
GOALS: none. Deadlock could not be broken in a game of two halves.
INCIDENTS: in a fairly even contest there was little out of the ordinary to require comment.
YELLOWS: Montoya with a late first half challenge. Burn & Dunk booked simultaneously early in the second period.
SUBS: 80 - Mac Allister debuts with March withdrawn. 82 - Jahanbakhsh replaces Trossard.
89 - Stephens in lieu of Mooy.
SYNOPSIS: visitors began slowly and passively but grew into the game, competing well enough by middle of the first half. Hosts came up against resolute defensive numbers and therefore were often reduced to long range efforts where space allowed.
Going into the interval goalless was a pointer in the right direction for BHA keeping a possible clean sheet.
After changing ends, nip & tuck, ebb & flow and cut & thrust continued while action ramped up entering the final twenty minutes.
Substitutions next got into the fray and an open affair lasted until final whistle.
A precious clean sheet and single point was just reward for the amount of effort expounded in avoiding defeat away from home.
MoM - Bissouma, plenty of effort from box to box.
NUMBERS: poss 43%-57%, on target 1-1, off target 10-6, corners 2-0, fouls 4-7, yellows 1-3, subs 2-3.
CONSEQUENCES: other results at foot of the table went the way of Albion.
Lack of a win this year was still holding the club too close to the Prem bottom three.
