WEATHER: cold & settled . . . GATE: 30,880.
GRAHAM POTTER had his name in papers etc again but Brighton fans were getting used to obtuse media speculation in a techno-driven age where fanciful futures fleetingly assume reality today, while tomorrow, reporting of now past events got validated via column inches and chronicles such as this one.
GP rearranged the last starting eleven for this superimposed midweek contest against a big-six outfit brought forward three weeks.

NOTED: Welbeck, Mac Allister & Moder with goal scoring opportunities. Lamptey & Cucurella provided a string of centres from out wide. Strong centre-back pairing of Webster & Burn. Solid play from Alzate holding in m-f.
YELLOWS: Burn.
CHANGES: 62 Trossard & Maupay for Welbeck & Gross . 76 March for Lamptey.
FIRST HALF: it is currently some of the best football ever seen this century by hosts support and of high quality because of similar levels of display from opponents. Going behind merely qualified how good the standard is set to compete equally or even stay in the game.
SECOND HALF: Seagulls equaliser pushed the away unit into sustained offensive action with the home defence performing well and countering at pace. That role reversal continued during changes while the final result hung in balance.
At end of the day goal attempts were mostly nullified by each team appreciating the art of defending.
NUMBERS: poss 43%-57%, on target 2-3, off target 8-12, corners 5-7,
