Post Match report for the Man Utd game - Saturday, 26th September 2020

PREMIER LEAGUE 20/21: Brighton v Manchester United - 26/9/20, P3.

ALBION ADD TO PREM EXPERIENCE AGAINST BIG BOYS

RESULT: 2-3 ~ Maupay, March . (h-t 1-1) . SHAPE: 5-2-3

VENUE: the Amex, Falmer - second home match of three fixtures to date.
BUILD UP: this was the second time Albion had entertained United post lockdown, that previous occasion occurring at very end of June during the much delayed run in.
Albion executive director Martin Perry was retiring at end of this month, taking all Brighton fans very best wishes with him, although he must already ponder as to exactly when his currently empty, world-class, purpose-built, icon of a stadium would again accommodate a vastly restricted test audience, let alone anything like a future sell out crowd.

GRAHAM POTTER had nearly a full squad available and was anticipated to rotate personnel for this Prem contest and the following EFL Cup R4 tie to be held here on Wedesday evening against self same opponents.

TEAM: . . . . . . . . . . . 1 Ryan
. 2 Lamptey, 3 White, 5 Dunk, 4 Webster, 20 March
. . . . . . . . . 14 Lallana, 17 Alzate
. . . . . 7 Connolly, 9 Muapay, 11 Trossard

BENCH: 23 Steele, 30 Bernard, 34 Veltman, 33 Burn, 13 Gross (75), 16 Jahanbakhsh (75), 49 Molumby.

GOALS: 1-0 - 40. Following a useful first half performance, Albion are given a penalty which is dispatched by MAUPAY.
1-1 - 43. After a counter attack is illegally stopped, from the set piece a United defender gets a deflected tap in.
1-2 - 55. Another flowing move when regaining the ball and surging forward sees visitors take the lead.
2-2 - 95. A last gasp attack from locals gives MARCH a chance.
2-3 - 90+10. The away side win the match from the penalty spot.

INCIDENTS: 9 & 21 - Trossard hits a post from early exchanges. 29 - Webster nods a free-kick onto the crossbar. 33 - United net but the flag goes up. 38 - Lamptey is fouled in the box, Ref points to the spot. 47 - Connolly goes down in the area, Ref consults his monitor, no pen. 51 - visitors net from a break... offside. 64 - March hits an upright. 75 - Trossard hits the bar. 96 - Ref consults his monitor and gives a pen decision to Red Devils.

YELLOWS: White, Dunk, Trossard.

SUBS: 75 - Gross & Jahanbakhsh for Lallana & Connolly.

SYNOPSIS: good work by hosts throughout the first forty-five minutes resulted in a free hit granted by Ref. This was negated within a couple of moments or so with an equally soft equaliser.
At the interval it was even stephen once more and the game hung in balance for entering the second period.
Ref was soon involved again chalking off goal-scoring efforts at either end before noting travellers eased ahead.
At the expected point in the game Potter made a double change. In the event an equaliser was unforthcoming until final seconds of a scintillating contest.
A controversial United winner from Refs very late decision opens a can of worms.
MoM - March, looked like a Prem player.

NUMBERS: poss 54%-46%, on target 5-4, off target 13-3, corners 7-1, fouls 18-16, yellows 3-2, subs 2-3.

brightonfans note: reading those above articles about Falmer will bring home (to use an unintended pun) the importance of following rules & regs to finally attain the ultimate object from various conflicted & disputed machinations. Reopening stadiums to fans is a stumbling block that can & shall be overcome by presenting polemics, plans & procedures, plus demonstrating all these do fit, inside & out, government pandemic safety precautions & protocols. Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club have already successfully led by example.
