Post Match report for the Norwich game - Saturday, 4th July 2020
PREMIER LEAGUE restarted: Norwich v Brighton - 4/7/20, P33.
(Postponed 11/4/20 Prem suspended. Game played behind closed doors).
ALBION DO JUST ENOUGH TO INCREASE POINTS TALLY
RESULT: 0-1 ~ Trossard . (h-t 0-1) . SHAPE: 4-4-2
VENUE: Carrow Road, Norwich - seventeenth away match of thirty-three fixtures to date.
PRE-KICKOFF: no Brighton fans were present here for a lunchtime k-o today but well remembered that last visit to Norfolk during springtime 2017. Albion had already achieved promotion to the Prem but ineptly failed to claim the Championship title.
Perhaps now a huge irony was emerging, should Seagulls be responsible for dispatching Canaries straight back to level2 after struggling merely one season in this elite division.
WEATHER: not exactly summerlike conditions.
GRAHAM POTTER said beforehand he had not enjoyed the last few months at all. His starting eleven could ease ongoing angst at a stroke if scoring first, keeping a clean sheet and securing another place in the Prem for next term.
Webster passed a fitness test, while Maupay, Mooy & Trossard elevated from previous subs appearances.
TEAM . . . . . . . . . . . 1 Ryan
. 2 Lamptey, 15 Webster, 5 Dunk, 33 Burn
. 18 Mooy, 8 Bissouma, 24 Propper, 11 Trossard
. . . . . . . . . 44 Connolly, 7 Maupay
BENCH: 27 Button, 22 Montoya, 20 March, 17 Murray.
30 Bernardo (72), 13 Gross (72), 6 Stephens (79), 10 Mac Allister (79), Duffy (94).
GOALS: 25 - an interception allowed Mooy space and this counter was executed well by TROSSARD to move across defenders.
INCIDENTS: Bissouma lets fly a hot shot from down range and forces a parrying save.
Canaries hit the woodwork at the death.
YELLOWS: Lamptey & Gross.
SUBS: 72 - Bernardo & Gross for Mooy & Connolly meant reshape to 541. 79 - Stephens & Mac Allister for Trossard & Bissouma. 94 - Duffy on for Lamptey.
ANALYSIS: opening exchanges formed patterns of play where hosts became predominant. Visitors were initially pressed back and consistently lost the ball when going forward. Slowly Albion worked a way into this low level contest, being fought out mainly between both boxes.
The first goal would be crucial and it went way of toiling travellers on the break, before half an hour expended.
After turnaround lacklustre work from the away outfit allowed locals a toehold while the clock ran down. Canaries made changes first, which meant Potter would be reactive rather than otherwise. He opted for late game management by endeavouring to maintain a clean sheet and merely breaking on the counter.
In the event, Seagulls rode their luck from off the back-foot, hanging on and stealing all points.
MoM - Lamptey, class act.
NUMBERS: poss 58%-42%, on target 1-2, off target 11-6, corners 0-2, fouls 11-13, yellows 2-2, subs 4-5 (5/9).
CONSEQUENCES: a valuable victory ahead of other bottom six fixtures. That other opposition has it all to do now.
