PREMIER LEAGUE restarted: Leicester v Brighton - 23/6/20, P31 (postponed from 22/3/20).

ALBION HOLD OUT FOR A GOALLESS PERFORMANCE


RESULT: 0-0 . SHAPE: 4-3-3


VENUE: Kingpower Stadium, Leicester - sixteenth away match of thirty-one fixtures to date.
PRE-KICKOFF: it was a hot and sunny late afternoon with high summer temperatures. Albion were back on the road but their fans were not.
Away form had not been much to write home about prior to lockdown during mid March but the run in was now under way at long last.
WEATHER: very warm evening.


GRAHAM POTTER made alterations to the starting eleven at the Amex on that first winning weekend just gone.
Lamptey & Mac Allister made debuts, while Stephens & Connolly stepped up from subs appearances.

GOALS: none.


INCIDENTS: 13 - Connolly got brought down in the area but the perpetrator merely receives a yellow card. The keeper saves the spot kick by Maupay.
Moments later Webster pulled up with hamstring problems and Lamptey received an elbow in the face that drew blood.

YELLOWS: Stephens slides in unfairly. Duffy clatters in desperation.

SUBS: 24 - Duffy replaces the injured Webster. 57 - Trossard, March and Propper for Mac Allister, Maupay and Bissouma. 82 - Murray on Connolly off.
Effect of second half swaps was to bolster a reshape to resist dangerous late threats from hosts.


SYNOPSIS: useful initial attacks and forays from visitors were negatively interrupted by not converting the penalty and immediately a lengthy period to treat injuries. As travellers struggled to regain composure the domestic outfit stepped up a low gear but left an impression they were saving something for later stages when heat may have sapped best efforts Seagulls could offer from early doors.
Come the belated interval both sides had been playing goalless for well over 45 minutes.
The anticipated reactive response from locals produced a contest that hung in balance while both sheets remained clean. City cranked it up and so Potter made a triple change before the hour mark. Hosts upped the ante as travellers flattered to deceive now going forward.
Following introduction of home team subs Albion were kept on the defensive and holding out for a point. In the event with the game stretched, Murray entered the fray, visitors opting to go long ball out from deep with a back five.
Brighton maintained a clean sheet and it was job done from a strategic point of view in relation to bottom six stats.
MoM - Lamptey, brilliant display.

NUMBERS: poss 67%-33%, on target 2-1, off target 9-8, corners 5-7, fouls 10-13, yellows 2-2, subs 3-5 (5/9).

CONSEQUENCES: another point in the bag and it is up to drop-zone threatened clubs to chase Seagulls as games run out.
