* * * * * ALBION STUCK IN A DEEPENING RUT * * * * *

RESULT: 0-2 . (h-t 0-1) . . . . SHAPE: 4-4-2 . . . . REF: likes to be noticed.

VENUE: the Amex, Falmer - fourteenth home match of twenty-eight fixtures to date . Sat 12:30pm.
PRE-MATCH: the sun was out over rolling hills at city limits for this lunchtime kickoff.
Spring was in the air and Brighton fans took positives from where we were and where we might be in sunlit uplands of summer.
WEATHER: sunny . . GATE: 31,474 . . KIT: yellow & blue . . ATMOSPHERE: soon deflated.

GRAHAM POTTER understands pressure and puts things into perspective and context. His perception of a free hit is in relation to assessing percentages during a sequence of results which determines pecking order from this moment in time.
GP altered some personnel from previous defeat on the road last weekend.
Bissouma, March and Maupay lined up . Kid keeper McGill sat among substitutes but without gloves.
INJURED: 4 Webster . . SQUAD: 25 Caicedo, 28 Roberts, 58 Ferguson, 60 Sarmiento.

TEAM . . . . . . . . . 1 Sanchez
. 2 Lamptey, 34 Veltman, 5 Dunk, 3 Cucurella
. 20 March, 8 Bissouma, 17 Alzate, 10 Mac Allister
. . . . . . . 9 Maupay . . . . . . 11 Trossard

SUBS: 14 Lallana (45), 13 Gross (53), 18 Welbeck (66).
BENCH: 23 Steele (gk), 38 McGill (gk), 12 Mwepu, 15 Moder, 24 Duffy, 42 Leonard.

GOALS: 0-1 - 19 . visitors punt forward was chased by one of their front runners as Sanchez ambled into the area, connecting with the man rather than the ball.
0-2 - 61 . Bissouma raised an arm at Reds strike. There was a pregnant pause prior to Ref pointing to the spot.

NOTED: ploughing an offensive furrow with long balls from the back was at least an alternative to... slow, side, back, repeat.
Giving front men goal scoring opportunities was an ongoing problem and makes BHA attack seem second rate.

YELLOWS: Bissouma - had a case for feeling hard done by . Mac Allister, Maupay.

CHANGES: 45 Lallana for Alzate . 53 Gross for Lallana . 66 Welbeck for Bissouma

FIRST HALF: a giveaway goal took wind out of Seagulls wings and the Amex came crashing back to earth emotionally.
The home teams body language then appeared to represent acceptance of another hiding for nothing.
SECOND HALF: Potter reshaped to 343 and moved players positionally - March over to left and Lamptey up right flank.
Midfield was twice more changed, due to an injury issue and possible disciplinary risk. So other options were limited.
Reds merely had to contain predictable forays forward from struggling hosts method of offense. It proved not too difficult.
Huff & puff ensued while Albion attempted to join the dots from back to front via everything in between.
But it was like wandering in a pitch-sized maze, round & round, clueless as to final direction of travel.
Two turning points went the way of travellers in hosts third.
At the opposite end it was the same old story of fail to score.

NUMBERS: poss 52%-48%, on target 3-9, off target 5-9, corners 7-6,
fouls 12-15, yellows 3-1, subs 3-3, shape 4231-433 . . . . . . gd-8 pt33 po13
