RESULT: 0-3 . (h-t 0-2) . . . . SHAPE: 4-4-2

VENUE: the Amex, Falmer - twelfth home match of twenty-five fixtures to date . Sat 3:00pm.
PRE-MATCH: Brighton fans returned to the community stadium for the first time in a month. Unusually it was in daylight for a regular Saturday afternoon kickoff.
The downside concerned transport issues in wake of yesterdays storm.
With screens working once more on concourses collective mood there was upbeat despite exterior weather conditions.
WEATHER: wet at first and gusty winds throughout . . . GATE: tba - many gaps in seating.

GRAHAM POTTER was looking for a positive reaction following midweek away defeat in controversial circumstances.
GP elected to form up with an old school 442, matching opponents trademark shape over many Prem seasons.
INJURY: 12 Mwepu, 4 Webster . BAN: 5 Dunk . SQUAD: 55 Turns.

TEAM . . . . . . . . . . 1 Sanchez
. 2 Lamptey, 24 Duffy, 34 Veltman, 3 Cucurella
. 15 Moder, 8 Bissouma, 14 Lallana, 10 Mac Allister
. . . . . . 18 Welbeck . . . . . . 9 Maupay

SUBS: 11 Trossard (55), 20 March (55), 58 Ferguson (68) on debut.
BENCH: 23 Steele, 28 Roberts, 13 Gross, 17 Alzate, 25 Caicedo, 42 Leonard.

GOALS: 0-1 - 21 . strong and purposeful play was rewarded by a direct strike on goal as hosts floundered.
0-2 - 40 . sixes & sevens in Seagulls defence saw a tame effort deflect into the net off Veltman.
0-3 - 69 . Seagulls lost the ball in midfield and the away outfit made their next goal scoring opportunity count.

NOTED: Duffy & Sanchez swap words as the keeper punches at the defenders header.
Moves down flanks and cross field passes were nearly all played in front of two banks of four.
Midfield were too slow & intricate with strikers just chasing.

YELLOWS: Duffy - an experienced international defender but c-d pairing was given a tough time.

CHANGES: 55 Trossard & March for Lallana & Moder . 68 Ferguson (debut) for Welbeck.

FIRST HALF: opposition were better than locals from the get go and their intention was to continually go forwards.
Conversely hosts appeared lacklustre and bereft of attacking prowess.
SECOND HALF: Potter shook things up early into the second period but this backfired spectacularly.
He stuck with initial tactics in order to affect carry & delivery up the sharp end.
However it was defensive mistakes that contributed to defeat.
Plaudits went to visitors & their support for a team effort all round.
Domestic performance on and off the field was very average by comparison.
Perhaps players and people wearing blue & white now realised limitations of the squad previously riding a wave of media hype & regional populism.
In a football match the side that imposes itself on the contest can also control play, irrespective of stats or league position.
Brighton had not learnt from four Burnley experiences beforehand. Travellers exposed our lack of versatility in a battle of determination, honest guts and will to win.

NUMBERS: poss 69%-31%, on target 1-4, off target 10-6, corners 4-4,
fouls 12-12, yellows 1-4, subs 3-3, shape 442-442 . . . . . . gd-3 pt33 po9.
