VENUE: St Marys, Southampton - eighth away match of fifteen fixtures to date . Sat 3pm.
PRE-MATCH: that midweek contest began a busy month ahead and here we go again on the road for an irregular Saturday kickoff.
Our record against south coast rivals was ok here so onus was to keep it continuing.
WEATHER: dry & cold . . . GATE: 28,706 . . . KIT: all aqua.
GRAHAM POTTER was preparing for the season of goodwill. He did not have much to do to alter his philosophy from preceding weeks.
He is in a results driven business that can alternatively achieve a feelgood mood or slough of despond - but so far so good.
Changes were necessary due to an increasing injury list. Substitute numbers were made up from outer fringes.
INJURY: 4 Webster, 5 Dunk, 14 Lallana, 17 Alzate, 18 Welbeck, 60 Sarmiento . . . SQUAD: 35 Baluta.
TEAM . . . . . . . . . . . 1 Sanchez
. 34 Veltman, 24 Duffy (capt), 33 Burn, 3 Cucurella
. . 13 Gross . . . . . 8 Bissouma . . . . . 12 Mwepu

. . . . . . . . . . . . . 9 Maupay
BENCH: 23 Steele (gk), 15 Scherpen (gk), 10 Mac Allister, 27 Locadia, 28 Roberts, 33 Richards.
7 Connolly (55), 20 March (63),15 Moder (78).
GOALS: 1-0 - 29 . pushing BHA rearguard high proved unfortunate as hosts turnover produced a solo effort.
1-1 - 98 . MAUPAY nets from deep in the box following a set piece by Moder, with his assist from a cross.
NOTES: Sanchez saves kept Seagulls in the game early doors. Albion created little during a turgid away first forty-five minutes with Saints running riot.
Locals sat on their lead and the clock wound down. Staying in the game was important during subs and tactical alterations.
YELLOWS: Duffy - suspended . Bissouma.
SUBS: 55 - Connolly for Gross . 63 - March for Lamptey . 78 - Moder for Veltman . 90 - Trossard carried off.
FIRST HALF: tactics intended that visitors would go from back to front quickly but this was at forgoing possession, therefore allowing hosts more ball. Seagulls squad appeared lightweight and overrun in midfield.
Conceding meant chasing the game, which required yet more effort to up the ante. But once again travellers toiled to restore parity.
SECOND HALF: Potter soon inserted a second striker to stretch the pitch. He kept pedal to metal via subs going forwards as hosts faced increasing pressure.
In the event a very late equaliser balanced stats overall from an open and combative contest.
Turning points happen in a split second but it helps if you are in the right place at the instant passing of time.
NUMBERS: poss 44%-56%, on target 4-4, off target 10-10, corners 6-2,
fouls 16-12, yellows 4-2, subs 2-3, shape 442-352 . . . . gd-2 pt20 po9
