RESULT: 0-0 . . . . . SHAPE: 4-2-3-1

VENUE: the Amex, Falmer - seventh home match of thirteen fixtures to date . Sat 5:30pm.
PRE-MATCH: winter chill circulated now within a previously balmy area of autumnal outstanding natural beauty. It blew down from the north, driving on hordes of Yorkshire support metaphorically anticipating a covering of white, tho perhaps an odd flurry would suffice in reality.
WEATHER: cold & windy . . . . GATE: 31,166 . . . REF: was he behind the curve?

GRAHAM POTTER had been nice to everybody all week, at least so his public persona proclaimed. He is a student of cause & effect, accepting pragmatism rather than preconceptions or preclusions, dealing with consequences whatever the outcome. He understands you cannot please each & everyone all the time.
GP made several alterations to the last starting line up, adopting a different home attacking approach on paper.
INJURY: 17 Alzate, 18 Welbeck . . . SQUAD: 7 Connolly, 28 Roberts, 33 Burn.

TEAM . . . . . . . . . 1 Sanchez
. 34 Veltman, 4 Webster, 5 Dunk, 3 Cucurella

. . . . 2 Lamptey, 15 Moder, 11 Trossard
. . . . . . . . . . . . 9 Maupay

27 Locadia (68), 20 March (76), 60 Sarmiento (82).

GOALS: none .

NOTED: 1st - Lamptey runs riot, Maupay misses, Moder & Trossard hit woodwork,
2nd - Moder miss, Locadia effort. March over bar, Sanchez saves, March off post.

YELLOWS: Bissouma.

SUBS: 68 - Locadia for Maupay . 76 - March for Lamptey . 82 - Sarmiento for Moder.

FIRST HALF: both outfits played fast purposeful football involving a man on man technique from visitors that made things competitive.
Chances duly arrived from snappy wing play & movement but an end product failed to materialise, in north or south goal areas.
SECOND HALF: past the hour mark it began to become apparent that deadlock might not be broken.
Each side attempted to find space and in another hectic forty-five minutes of endeavour, turnover, transitions, back to front and end to end effort, motion ensued as before.
Potter introduced attacking subs and threw in the proverbial kitchen sink to boot.
Both keepers were tested during a full bloodied contest, where duals, recoveries, lost balls and crosses steadily racked up from this ongoing head to head.
Albion were last on motd but for obvious reasons. Those at the Amex witnessed plenty of highlights that vt editors, with their devotion to numbers of goals scored, left on the cutting room floor.

NUMBERS: poss 58%-42%, on target 4-4, off target 16-7, corners 6-1,
fouls 12-14, yellows 1-3, subs 3-3, shape 4231-3331 . . . . . gd-2 pt18 po8
