RESULT: 1-4 . (h-t 0-3) . . . SHAPE: 3-5-2 then 4-3-3
VENUE: the Amex, Falmer - fifth home match of nine fixtures to date . Sat 5:30pm.
PRE-MATCH: we were the Prem teatime kickoff and with stadium concourses open early for a drink, it certainly struck five-o-clock somewhere.
Brighton fans - ever keen to be celebrating where we are at any time. But at midnight, could motd appear to be more sobering?
WEATHER: cloudy & cool . . . REF: saw things... or did not . . . GATE: 31,215.
GRAHAM POTTER was in a happy place. In fact, so far so good and ongoing confidence had further built his reputation among those that register and analyse improving statistics.
He knows you are judged on that last result.
This team-sheet revealed Duffy was missing but March started in a very fluid midfield.
TEAM . . . . . . . . 1 Sanchez
. 34 Veltman, 5 Dunk, 33 Burn, 3 Cucurella
. . . . . 13 Gross, 14 Lallana, 15 Moder
. . . 20 March . . . 9 Maupay . . . 11 Trossard
BENCH: 23 Steele (Gk), 4 Webster, 7 Connolly, 8 Bissouma, 24 Duffy, 30 Richards.
2 Lamptey (57), 12 Mwepu (57), 10 Mac Allister (72).
GOALS: 0-1 - 13 . Sanchez bungled keeping the ball in gloves and bang, it dropped for an easy tap in.
0-2 - 28 . a fast counter from Seagulls misplaced pass entering the final third was reversed a little too simply.
0-3 - 31 . Sanchez flapped down low and again the ball fell to opponents who said thank you so much.
1-3 - 95 . MAC ALLISTER converts a spot kick after Mwepu is felled in the box.
1-4 - 81 . hosts were out on their feet and yet another giveaway presented at the death.
NOTED: Dunk cleared off the line . shots by Moder, Gross, Trossard, March, Mwepu.
good flank work by Cucurella, March & Lamptey . Saves by Sanchez.
YELLOWS: Lallana, Moder.
SUBS: 57 - Lamptey & Mwepu for Burn & Maupay . 72 - Mac Allister for Gross.
FIRST HALF: going three down by the opening half hour was not an easy way for hosts to stay in the game and attempt reaching parity. Mistakes going forward were punished severely, while building from the back appeared more like an exercise in ultra defensive passing.
Box to box traffic was mainly against locals.
SECOND HALF: Potter inserted two subs prior to the hour mark. Visitors absorbed nuances in shape and were ok to stand off and soak up pressure. Pretty little triangles out on flanks was not really causing the free-flowing north-west super-outfit too much bother around their area.
Home efforts to create and take chances typically failed once more. Our last goal from open play came at the end of September.
Travellers showed us how to score from assertive tactics, all round quality football and an intense will to win.
