RESULT: 0-0 . . . . SHAPE: 3-5-2

VENUE: the Amex, Falmer - fourth home match of seven fixtures to date . Sat 5:30pm.
PRE-MATCH: Brighton fans entered October knowing we had over achieved during opening months of our fifth consecutive Prem campaign. Being out of the bottom six was a new habit we would like to continue following a fantastic start. When this burgeoning bubble bursts, even slipping into mid-table mediocrity might still seem a step in the right direction.
WEATHER: very wet & windy . . . GATE: tba . . . . PITCH: played perfectly throughout a deluge.

GRAHAM POTTER is under no illusions about sporting twists of fate. He knows things like levels of performance, statistical fine margins and law of averages, not to mention rub of the green. Once across the white line he accepts a lot of stuff is out of his control.
The starting eleven against Palace on Monday evening turned out again bar Moder instead of injured Welbeck.
INJURED: 4 Webster, 8 Bissouma, 17 Alzate, 18 Welbeck . SQUAD: 12 Mwepu, 35 Baluta.

TEAM . . . . . . . . . . 1 Sanchez
. . . . . . . . . . 24 Duffy, 5 Dunk, 33 Burn
. 34 Veltman, 13 Gross, 14 Lallana, 15 Moder, 3 Cucurella
. . . . . . . 9 Maupay . . . . . . 11 Trossard

BENCH: 23 Steele (gk), 2 Lamptey, 7 Connolly, 27 Locadia, 28 Roberts, 30 Richards, 60 Sarmiento.
10 Mac Allister (78), 20 March (84).

GOALS: 0-0 . none.

NOTED: Gunners hit a post after getting in behind. Attempts to net came from Dunk, Lallana, Burn and Maupay prior to turnaround. Moder twice, Maupay, Trossard, Cucurella, March and Duffy all contributed to efforts during second half persistence.

YELLOWS: 73 Maupay, 81 Veltman

SUBS: 78 - Mac Allister for Moder . 84 - March for Gross.

FIRST HALF: in atrocious conditions for performing to high levels of quality both teams were competitive, explorative and on the front foot. Chances came and went, given liability for any number of mistakes during excessive precipitation.
SECOND HALF: nip & tuck resumed in both directions with visitors always carrying a threat at counters. Hosts were fluid (no pun intended) to just around the box, without causing too much disorder in the away defence.
Potter inserted attacking subs, switched to 442 late in the day and pressed for the winner.
Home fans may be slightly disappointed with nil-nil, having witnessed several attempts to score the perfect goal via a series of intricate passes.
To a neutral it was Prem thrills & spills through and through and anything but a no score bore.
Brighton do look like a footballing side and on evidence to date are adequate between areas, appearing only to lack improving upon goals to chances ratio at the sharp end.

FUNDAMENTALS: poss 58%-42%, on target 2-2, off target 19-6, corners 8-5,
fouls 8-5, yellows 2-1, subs 2-3, shape 352-4231 . . . . . gd3 pt14 po5
