PRE-MATCH: it was our annual meeting up Whitehorse Lane and this particular term scheduled a late September evening get together. Brighton fans had metaphorically come a long way, since initially arriving here in October 2002, from our first foray to outer reaches of Croydon during the infamous Withdean era.
Tonight could herald a climax to that new-dawn melodrama begun nineteen years ago in the early twenty-first century. There had been many ups and downs, ins and outs, gives and takes, plus round the houses, thru decades on route. But part of supporters recent enjoyment was being propelled on a special journey to experience glories of top flite football right now.
WEATHER: cool & dry . . . GATE: tba . . . KIT: turquoise.
GRAHAM POTTER has similarly come a fair distance from when physical ability as a youngster got him on to football fields mixing with successful England squad kids right back in 1993.
Developing mental capacities, turning thinking into doing and evolving theories into strategies took him much further along the proverbial road toward coaching elite. So tonight he too might also reach a pinnacle for kudos.

FIRST HALF: hosts were all over visitors like a rash from word go. It took a while for the away outfit to make inroads, as we are not noted as a counterattacking side.
In fact slowing play down to keep a clean sheet until the interval was preferred.
Then disaster struck.
SECOND HALF: Potter subbed, re-jigged m-f and altered shape on turnaround. But injury to the sub soon forced use of another. The clock ticked and status quo resumed.
Visitors plugged on but at end of the night it very nearly registered a fail to score stat and that suggested a reversal.
Then lady luck pointed fickle finger of fate.
