RESULT: 2-1 ~ Maupay, Welbeck . (h-t 1-0) . . . SHAPE: 4-3-3

VENUE: the Amex, Falmer - third home match of five fixtures to date . Sunday 2pm.
PRE-MATCH: vagaries of scheduling for visual broadcasters meant if fans wanted lunch, hot food was probably fast. That is if prepared to queue at length.
Everybody hoped it would all feed the soul at least come kickoff.
WEATHER: cloudy with wet period . . . . GATE: 31,078

GRAHAM POTTER knew about strengths and weaknesses, skill and vision, determination and will to win, rounds pegs and square holes. All he had to do was find the right fit for this particular occasion.
He introduced Cucurella as left back for home debut and March lined up in midfield.
INJURED: Webster . ISOLATING: Gross.

TEAM . . . . . . . . 1 Sanchez
. 34 Veltman, 24 Duffy, 5 Dunk, 3 Cucurella
. . . 20 March, 8 Bissouma, 14 Lallana
. 9 Maupay . . . 11 Trossard . . . 18 Welbeck

BENCH: 23 Steele (gk), 2 Lamptey, 7 Connolly, 10 Mac Allister, 17 Alzate, 30 Richards.
12 Mwepu (62), Burn (69), 15 Moder (80).

GOALS: 1-0 - 35 . MAUPAY converted a penalty given for handball in a crowded area at another set piece.
2-0 - 50 . WELBECK rose to nod down a free-kick from out wide by Trossard.
2-1 - 61 . Albion were in shape but static as opposition movement meant they were always half a second too late to intercept.

NOTED: shots by Maupay, Welbeck, March & Trossard - and an obvious miss by Lallana.
Injury to Bissouma in the first period required a knee bandage on turnaround.
Duffy headed goalwards at a corner and appealed as a defender under pressure from Maupay handled.
City twice had the ball in the net but each effort got disallowed for offside while blue & white shirts crowded the box.

YELLOWS: Veltman, Sanchez.

SUBS: 62 - Mwepu for March . 69 - Burn for Welbeck . 80 - Moder for Bissouma.

FIRST HALF: some of the best football seen live at the Amex played by hosts since fans became accustomed to high levels of tempo and application required to maintain this standard.
SECOND HALF: after the hour mark the pendulum was swinging toward visitors chase to reduce deficit and then equalise.
Potter responded when inserting defensive subs at intervals and altering formation to 532.
At the death locals ship was steady after long running out of steam.
Travellers first response vessel was unfortunately beached on route by VAR sightings.

FUNDAMENTALS: poss 37%-63%, on target 5-3, off target 7-11, corners 4-9,
fouls 8-10, yellows 2-1, subs 3-3, shape 3412-433 . . . . gd3 pt12 po4
