Post Match report for the Everton game - Saturday, 28th August 2021
PREMIER LEAGUE 21/22: Brighton V Everton - 28/831, P3.
* * * * * ALBION OUTCLASSED IN THROWAWAY REVERSAL * * * * *
RESULT: 0-2 . (h-t 0-1) . . . SHAPE: 4-3-3
VENUE: the Amex, Falmer second home match of three fixtures to date . Sat 3pm.
PRE-MATCH: the transfer window was swinging shut and there had been plenty of outs but few ins for Brighton fans to get over-excited about signings. It appeared a case of jam tomorrow, depending on you possibly satisfying a sweet tooth.
WEATHER: cloudy & warm . . . GATE: 30,548.
GRAHAM POTTER sang praises of his visiting experienced opponent. He had also been magnanimous concerning departed Albion players. It seemed like progression via a limited learning curve, where just keeping things proverbially sweet was the way to go.
TEAM . . . . . . . 1 Sanchez
. 4 Webster, 24 Duffy, 5 Dunk, 15 Moder
. 10 Mac Allister, 8 Bissouma, 14 Lallana
. 13 Gross . . . 9 Maupay . . . 11 Trossard
BENCH: 23 Steele, 7 Connolly, 12 Mwepu, 17 Alzate, 19 Zeqiri, 28 Roberts
34 Veltman (46), 18 Welbeck (59), 30 Richards (73).
GOALS: 0-1 - 41 . on transition a runner went forward at pace as Albion retreated in a straight line without defending.
0-2 - 58 . Veltman was complicit by a professional foul in an area where unprofessionalism compromised his keeper.
OCCURRENCES: Trossard & Bissouma felt the pain of combat. Early Seagulls forward motion petered out into repetitive side, side, back, side, back...
Gross tried a low f-k thru the wall. Trossard went for distance rather than whites of their eyes stuff. Richards Prem debut.
YELLOWS: Bissouma . . . but Seagulls man of the match by a mile.
SUBS: 46 - Veltman for Mac Allister . 59 - Welbeck for Lallana . 73 - Richards for Moder
FIRST HALF: the first goal would be crucial and hosts did not chase the actual scorer but did the rest of this game thereafter. Locals rode their luck at times and had no complaints to go into the interval behind.
SECOND HALF: conceding a giveaway penalty made it game over.
Registering a fail to score stat rubbed salt into an open wound left festering from the run-in last spring.
If this was the best that an Albion first eleven could attempt versus pukka Prem opposition then the following campaign would be another of trauma, drama, blood, tears, toil, sweat and life in the bottom six once more.
FUNDAMENTALS: poss 66%-34%, on target 3-5, off target 11-9, corners 4-5,
fouls 7-9, yellows 1-2, subs 3-2, shape 3421-4411 . . . . . gd1 pt6 po7
