2 The place grew up from Ashby, Brumby and Crosby, which is obviously ABC for some of the earliest football in this area.
3 A certain Vicar of Frodingham started Scunthorpe Town and merged with other clubs to form United. Therefore his was possibly a kind of reform church.
4 In 1910, Scunthorpe & Lindsey Utd played at the Old Show Ground and lasted as a professional duo until that aging double act eventually parted company. They finally got to be top of the bill for third division north in 1958, so then separated.
5 As members of the Midlands League, Scunthorpe had money worries and one event raised funds by raffling a pig. It ran wild on the pitch to become something of a seasoned mascot, at least one ticket holder appreciated.
6 Utd took thirty years to reach Football League status. It might take another big score and ten points for yet more promotions.
7 Their wooden stands burned down twice over the years. Replaced at last by modern steel construction - who could have thought that one up?
