10 things you didn't think you'd know about -
Nottingham Forest
1 A large area of oak trees once formed part of Sherwood Forest in the 12th century. It's just as well Robin Hood was in hiding then because a hellava lot of 'em were eventually felled for ship building.
2 In 1154 Nottingham Castle was rebuilt but when John became King, he relegated the City on Ground below to lower league status.
3 A river runs through it and Lord Trent had the University developed, after making it in Boots. Btw, that's pills not football.
4 When footy first began, a Forest player thought it obvious the Ref should change from flag to a whistle. You heard it here last - absolutely.
5 The football club started up at Forest Rec pitches, out of town. So why didn't they play in a green strip?
6 The Reds were un-acclaimed Division Three South champions in 1951. How far north of Watford did you need to be?
7 Nott'm F had fallen like autumn leaves, to settle near the bottom of old div2. Clough breezed in and with red fingered Taylor, helped 'em blossom - great oaks etc. although not actually winning nor runner up when promoted from that league of 1977.
8 Like Building Societies, FC's were once mutual. Forest were last to become a company and didn't appear to attract a billionaire buyer in Thatcher's free market '80s. Oh well...
9 Re-sizing to 40k capacity is still a dream. Hey, the Council would be involved and we know exactly what that means.
10 Over £8M received for 'star' Stan Collymore - very good business or what?
