10 things you didn't think you'd know about -
Doncaster
1 Romans arrived initially and called the place Danum. It was even more of an ancient relic then, than Earth Stadium is now.
2 The old Racecourse grandstand was designed by John Carr in 1776. A spin-off can be found in the new Lakeside Stadium construction, especially double glazed windows and doors.
3 Dickens went there on the earliest railways and thought them all mad. He obviously hadn't rolled up at quiet Deaf School Playing Field, for an original 19th century style Doncaster home match.
4 That magnificent Mansion House was discontinued as a mayors' residence, in lieu of special civic and social occasions. Rovers supposedly trained there on alternate Wednesday nights in the stucco ballroom.
5 In an area ringed by coal mining villages, it was a weekly game of two similar shifts. Mon - Fri down pit, Sat & Sun being dirty northern b*st*rds yet again.
6 Think Donny on a cold, miserable Yorkshire evening. Likely a Belle Vue thing - you could only imagine a sight of beauty there really.
7 St Georges church is huge. Fans filled its massive spaces with heart felt prayers as the club's future all but appeared to be 20th century history.
8 In 1998 the Conference beckoned in controversial circumstances. There was a lot of talking, debating and arguing before the club could truly speak for itself once more.
9 Doncaster regained FL status in 2003. Thus a flashback to div3 days in another age and time at Bawtry Road's, Rossington End Terrace.
10 Rovers are going to a brand new mega venue off White Rose Way. So at last a budding home awaits in which to bloom and grow.
