Season2 (H) Championship 6/11/12 - 1-0 ~ Dobbie.
This fixture was yet another evening match, following a Friday nite game on TV at the Amex versus Leeds. We'd also played Cardiff, Wednesday and Ipswich just before bedtime, out of seven home contests to date. There was kind of a pattern developing where Championship matches came in pairs; two home then two away. Travelling hordes could find plenty of miles clocked up in a short space of time prior to regular visits to Falmer. It made life interesting, if not exactly routine. Also, we'd drawn three of those previous four nite fixtures and badly required to win at Falmer again. Gus didn't have too many injury worries, although Vicente was still long-term injured and we missed his attacking quality as shown during last run-in. Midfield replacements all performed to level2 standard but couldn't find the net, which at end of the day, would turn goals into points into p-o positions. You know it makes sense. On a dry nite 23k turned up.
*** match report: At coffee break we all thought it was same old, same old. In fact Posh were well in the game and caused a few threats. Albion couldn't find the net but the bench was filled with attacking players. Gus wanted more impetus and Seagulls flew from beginning of the second period. Flowing moves and chances galore got the juices going but we just couldn't hit the net. CMS missed a couple and other opportunities were thwarted although Bruno and Bridge were constantly forward in support. Gus put on two strikers as time ran out, moving Barnes behind in usual 433 shape. Boro sat back and soaked up the tidal wave of blue coming at 'em. Deep into stoppage Dobbie snatched a winner following another massed attack. Some punters had left early to catch public transport but they must have heard the roar in remote parts of Sussex. It was pure relief of feelings really - OMG!

Season1 (H) 27/8/11 - 2-0 ~ Noone, Harley.
Both Albion and Posh got promoted to the Championship at end of the previous season. Brighton completed 46 fixtures as L1 title-holders in early May but Peterboro had to go thru play-off stages when finishing fourth in League1. The other big difference was that Seagulls were now performing in front of about 20k sell-outs at the Amex and really flying, while United could merely muster around 8k on average at theirs. It was early days but each club needed to raise the game at level two, apart from getting in better players and paying them from extra dosh got at turnstiles. Anyway time would tell but at this moment in time, BHA appeared to have been dealt a half decent hand. They were unbeaten under Gus Poyet and had just defeated Sunderland at the Amex in midweek for League Cup r2 tie to send Brighton fans onto cloud nine. Talking of todays weather, it was of sunny intervals and over 19k attended - many in shirtsleeves.
*** match report: Noone put Brighton ahead on ten minutes when smashing home a shot from down range. After that we never really looked back, although Posh were in the game right up to rolling those closing credits. They played reasonable passing football but couldn't make more of chances created and their luck was right out on the big Amex pitch. To rub it in, Harley produced a fantastic goal from a f-k that had the mark of Becks all over it when swerving into the top corner (64min). Albion seemed content to sit back deep and let United continue to take a pop. Gus swapped both wide midfield men twenty mins from the end, allowing us to go box to box and back in numbers, so linking front and rear throughout. Albion kept a clean sheet thanks to Ankergren and some tough blocking and tackling in the last trench. We won the battle and so far, were winning the war as well. It wasn't always pretty but had been damn effective to date. It was just great to be a lucky Brighton fan at this moment in time. We had rub of our very own new green to boot.

It was a cool springtime Tuesday evening somewhere in the east midlands up London Road. Posh were fighting threat of relegation but Albion were in play-off places and intending to stay there until May. We had a half decent record on the road of; W7 D8 L6 F28 A25 and our record versus United there was unbeaten for a number of years. Before kickoff top ten positions were; Cardiff 83pt, Hull 77pt, Watford 71pt, Palace 66pt, Brighton 65pt, Bolton 63pt, Forest 63pt, Leicester 61pt, Charlton 57pt, Middlesbrough 55pt. There were four fixtures left to conclude and it would seem that any team chasing sixth spot might not need as many points to qualify for p-os than in years beforehand. Gus Poyet was happy with the squad, although accepted we were short of strikers due to long term injuries and suspension. He had dispensed with wingers on this occasion and went with a loose 433 shape including defensive and attacking midfield players.
*** match report: Posh got better of early exchanges and it took a while for visitors to get the old trademark passing game going. The home unit pressed possession and consequently pace of the game was fast and furious. Before 25min gone, Upson bounced one off underside of the bar from a corner. But by halftime the obvious thing was lack of real chances created to score goals. Ulloa appeared isolated for periods while Seagulls attempted to turn defence into attack. During the second period things livened up a tad as once again locals went back to front quickly in search of an opener. With a little over twenty minutes to go, Ref turned down a red card decision against Crofts, having apparently not seen the trip at a goal scoring opportunity. United later missed a sitter following a f-k, so passed up nicking all three points. Albion finished strongly as the contest reached fever pitch and Crofts headed a centre onto the bar. Ref got booed off at the death by livid home fans, although travelling support was pleased to record a clean sheet and another point to keep the unbeaten run going. Results once again favoured BHA coz Palace, Bolton and Forest all lost on a night of twelve important Championship fixtures.

Season1 (A) 21/1/12 - W 1-2 ~ Buckley 2.
It had been an unusual week prior to this Championship fixture against old League1/2 rivals. Brighton went to non-league Wrexham in midweek for FA Cup3 replay action, which was delayed 24 hours due to a frozen pitch. Seagulls eventually squeezed past unlucky Red Dragons in Wales 5-4 on penalties. When they got back to Falmer, several squad members were arrested by police pursuing enquiries concerning a previous assault incident in B'ton. One player was cleared of involvement but four youngsters were bailed pending any future prosecution. Gus Poyet had laterly turned to his development squad to supplement numbers for league and cup due to an injury crisis and numerous bans. He hadn't been able to field a settled team over a prolonged period and form took a dip at end of 2011. The transfer window was still open and B'ton fans wondered what would happen next.
*** match report: Albion shaped 451 with CMS solo up front but supported from m-f by four attackers. Unfortunately Painter, on return from injury, had to be replaced by El-Abd after only five minutes. With the passing game in full flow BHA pushed up and went ahead just after half an hour. Buckley took a wind assisted f-k from distance and it sailed over heads to go on into the net (32min). Posh changed personnel after the break, trying to shut off our dominance in possession. Both sides played football and United levelled as they upped their game in the final third (72m). Poyet considered his options and put two subs on with less than ten minutes left. B'ton were now operating more like 424 as Gus expected us to soak up home pressure and then counter quickly. Agdestein worked some magic going forward and fed Buckley who smashed a drive under the keeper to win it late (88m). Gus said, 'I think this was one of our best performances so far this season.' He'd won the match so would say something positive but could see the team playing in the way he firmly believes is best.
