Season7 (H) 17/2/18 FA Cup 5th rnd - 3-1 ~ Locadia, Goldson, Ulloa.
Albion had advanced to the last 16 in the FA Cup knockout after beating Palace at the Amex in the 3rd round and then Middlesbrough away in the 4th rnd. Seagulls next managed to avoid all remaining Prem sides and drew the now League Two outfit to visit Falmer. Fortunes change in footy and BHA was the big club now (see below) compared to days of yore during that infamous Withdean era (see other tab/link). Chris Hughton had been putting out a second eleven in previous Cup competitions and was expected to continue this process, especially as strikers Leo Ulloa & Jurgen Locadia were now both on board following the January transfer window shutting.
*** match report: Albion went through to the quarter-final stage after going three goals up by the hour mark. Locadia got the first when booting in a cross by Knockaert (15min). Goldson then doubled the lead when heading in from Suttner's corner (34min). Maenpaa replaced injured Krul and Propper swapped with Stephens for tactical reasons at start of the second period. Albion secured their place in the draw when Bruno crossed and Ulloa headed home (61min). Visitors got a deserved consolation from a route one attack into the area (77min). Both sides hit woodwork twice at various intervals and away fans had a nice day out at Falmer as well. Chris Hughton said, 'we deserved it and I'm delighted for Jurgen. You want him to get off the mark as a new player. To do that so early was excellent.' That evening the draw for the last eight was made and Albion were going to Man Utd at the theatre of dreams. It sounded like plenty of Brighton fans would make the trip and live the dream alongside PL fixture excursions this season.
26 Krul (12 Maenpaa), 2 Bruno, 18 Goldson, 4 Huenemeier, 29 Suttner, 11 Knockaert, 6 Stephens (24 Propper), 7 Kayal, 20 March, 25 Locadia (9 Baldock), 16 Ulloa.

Season1 (H) Championship 26/11/11 - 2-1 ~ og, Vincelot.
Gus Poyet had been having a tough time leading up to this must-win fixture. He'd made remarks earlier about an ongoing football racism issue and got hammered in the press. His squad also performed below par and suffered several injuries along the way. Now the FL were bringing charges against BHA, concerning abuse of the Ref during disputed defeat at Southampton where Taricco saw red. Seagulls got only one win from eleven games previously and were struggling to hit the net from any position. Poyet hadn't many options to change the first eleven and even reserves were done five-nil at Crawley. It was our first 3pm Sat k-o for some time at the Amex and over 19k attended on a dry, cloudy but chilly afternoon.
*** match report: Brighton went at it from k-o and fortunately opened the scoring. CM-S chased through and his shot was beaten out by City's keeper. In the event it struck a defender and rolled into the net (7min). Very soon afterwards Albion fell asleep and conceded to a header aimed at the far post (9m). Poyet was annoyed because we'd done the self same thing at So'ton. Then Painter had to go off injured, to be replaced by Vincelot (13m). He duly bagged the winner with a wonderful header from a Bridcutt lofted free kick (37m). Coventry came at us throughout the second period but couldn't equalise again. Poyet put on Barnes around the hour in lieu of on-loan Paynter, who'd played further forward in 433. Late in the day, LuaLua took to field of battle but now as a fully signed up Seagull. Whatever shape B'ton used, everybody had plenty of defending to do while visitors pressed to level scores until final whistle. Gus was happy with three points and turned the page on an unsettling few weeks.

memorable match: Season1 (A) - back at the Richo since bad old days in the C'ship during that infamous Withdean era.
Season2 (A) onwards - not C'ship.
Season1 (A) Championship 31/12/11 - L 2-0.
This was the first reverse fixture for our initial campaign based at the Amex, now being back in the Championship again since 2006. Things could have been worse, although Gus Poyet certainly considered adding to a small and injury-plagued squad for end of Jan '12 transfer window. By the halfway stage most B'ton fans would agree it was infinitely better than struggling in level-two during the Withdean era. Talking about ups and downs, that whole prolonged Falmer saga developed and was ongoing throughout those three seasons. In 2002 a Public Inquiry was announced and convened in 2003. For 2004 we were choked to find a 'no' verdict from inspectors but John Prescott ordered PI2 variation in 2005. He said 'yes' then but Lewes District Council led court appeal proposals throughout 2006. BHA were playing in League1 once more, before finally the government gave a green light to Falmer. If you think about it, where did all those noughties years go anyway? Brighton lost a young generation of supporters, apart from older fans who died prior to opening of our community stadium. We obviously had a lotta catching up to do.
*** match report: A poor run of form continued to very end of 2011 with defeat by the division's bottom club. It wasn't that they were better than us but took two chances from four shots on target. Brighton contested equally for possession and had a handful of chances, however failed to score for four fixtures. City took the lead against run of play when breaking from an Albion attack and scoring solo (34min). In the second period Ankergren flapped at a cross and bang, we went two down (54m). Poyet double subbed for Buckley and LuaLua on the hour and shaped 334 going forward. Not long afterwards he put on U18 wonder-kid Caskey to get some experience in a pukka match. Albion took 1300 travelling support in a crowd of 14k, although many B'fans would say midnight couldn't come soon enough. It would all be different in 2012, er, wouldn't it?
