without Greer and Murray I would settle right now for a draw, but having said that we will now probably win.
and of coarse this also depends on who if anyone Gus brings in

So the team for Swindon is looking like this?
Poke;
Calderon, El Abd, Elphick, Painter;
Kishishev, Navarro, Sparrow;
Bennett, Barnes, Holroyd/Baz

Shame we haven't managed to sign the main striker(s) we need to really challenge yet, but the team is looking solid in defence and midfield. I'm
hoping Poke starts well as this is an area I'm still unsure about.
I'd be happy with a draw against Swindon.

Gus still strongly hints that he is looking to bring more players in - including a striker so be it transfer or loan reckon there will be at least one
change to that likely team of LI's and my guess is that it will be up front.
When you think we have Murray, Greer and Brezovan still to come in the team is looking okay and surely must do more than another bottom half of the
table season, but how high we can go in the top half of the table remains to be seen.
Gus stated that he reckons he has already got a 20 goal a season man. That is clearly not Hart who has another year to be the seasoned team diplomat
- but we know will do a basic, if maybe not spectacular, job if ever required. Holroyd - not on performances so far. Barnes - certainly had a good
strike rate for us when on loan but for a full season is still unknown, but at his age the best is surely yet to come. Murray - if we can keep him on
the park and injury free with a little more accuracy and fortune he has the ability to score loads. It's the chances he misses that is the worry,
although you have to say at least he gets in the position to miss.
First match of the season is always a strange one (remember Norwich getting thrashed last year by Colchester and the pictures of fans throwing season
tickets at the manager!) but like others will be happy with a draw - and even happier with a win!

Murray is certainly a 20-a-season man on goalscoring rate, the problem is that we haven't got a full season out of him in the 2 and a half years
he's been here. Maybe this season though?
The LuaLua situation is also vital - he was a much more important figure for our recovery last season than the stats on assists and crosses suggest.
His pace put the fear of god into the opposition and often forced them back deeper, creating space for our other players.
But all will not be lost if we don't get him back. With him in the team there was a certain over-reliance on just attacking down his wing. Without
him, we will be forced to continue the improvement in our passing and keep possession game, which did improve under Gus last season but has plenty of
room for further improvement still. With Navarro, Kishishev, Sparrow, Dicker and the young Argentine, this is arguably the best set of central
midfield options that any Albion manager has had probably since the 1980s. I'm really looking for big things from this area of the pitch this season.

With Greer and Murray both missing I was going to go for a goaless draw for this match but having seen the way the rest of the side gelled so well
last weekend, I'm punting for a 0 - 1 to Albion.

The Swindon team printed in the Argus this morning is a useful one, Danny Wilson has made some good signings. They have Prutton and Douglas running
their midfield so it should be a good contest with ours. With Austin they have the better threat up front but Bennett will test their defence. I'm
thinking 1-1.

I reckon a draw would be a very good result for us today - what with the apparent lack of real firepower up front - so I'm in the 1-1 camp 'n' all.

Great win for the lads at Swinedon today! A brace from Sparrow knocked The Robins off their perch (although it did sound a bit nail-biting at the end
on the radio). I know Wardy went there today, so I await that 1st-hand account with baited wotsit.

All I can say is Sparrow battered the Robins.
Seriously, we didn't play particularly well if you regard accurate passing and good tackling as playing well, but we dug in and made the most of any
opportunity that came our way. It was a niggly cheating type of game and the referee didn't have control of it, with strange decisions on both
sides. Kish ran the midfield and when he was subbed with Dicker, then Dicker did the same. Navarro was neat and tidy, Barnes couldn't do much as he
was marked out of the game although he did get a clear opportunity in the second half but took too long to decide to hit it. Fortunately our box to
box player helped himself to a goal in each half and made sure of the victory.
That'll do for starters.

I thought the game was a credit to League 1. Both teams committed to playing passing football but perhaps defences a little too well organised to
produce a really flowing spectacle. But we deservedly won because we showed the greater flashes of class and quality - two wonderful goals, the first
a rapid series of one-touch passes that culminated in a fantastic shot from distance from Sparrow. The second an excellently worked counter attack
finished off by Sparrow that was very similar to Calderon's goal that beat Charlton last season.
Time will tell how good this victory is, but my feeling is Swindon are a good team who will be at least top 10 this season, so this was an excellent
result today.
Hard to deny the MOTM award to Sparrow but I thought Painter again was magnificent.

thanks for those reports
I fortunately heard all the match yesterday and it is that Sparrow is one of the signings of the season so far and if you intimate that Swindon are
going to be one of the top 10 then it was a great result indeed
we also have two great players to return at some time and I suspect they might have to wait, poor old Barnes done his job with no return other than he
helped us get a magnificent win
Wilson says that Swindon let us of the hook but you can only play as well as the other team will let you.

Excellent win, excellent news the season has started, lots of hope and anticipation, but most of all excitement at already being in the playoffs.
Still League 1 but we're on our way to Wembley. Brighton forever!!

Danny Wilson is under a lot of pressure to build on last season so I think his comments are a little unworthy and reflect that pressure.
Did Swindon let us off the hook? Absolutely not. Gus won the tactical battle - although both teams play a similar passing style, they use different
formations to get that result. Gus gambled that his midfielders would get forward to provide the goal threat and that's what happened - a big bonus
for us also that it came from someone else than Bennett. Wilson sacrificed numbers in midfield to play two strikers, but both of them had very
indifferent games, and were made to look ordinary players by good performances from El Abd and Elphick.
There is a lot of hype around Charlie Austin but I thought his performances in the play-offs and yesterday showed there really is not a lot to his
game other than the happy knack of shinning in a few goals as he did indeed manage yesterday. Othere than that there is little creativity about his
play and he struggles to get free of a tightly organised defence. I'd be surprised if he spends a lot of his career higher than the third tier -
Glenn Murray is a better player than him.
Wilson also blamed the ref. I wouldn't say he was great but I think that's also very simplistic. Ankergren did look on first viewing as though he
deserved the red card but I'd like to see a replay of the incident again to judge where the ball was heading - if the striker took a heavy touch then
the yellow card was the correct decision by the ref. But this incident was right at the end of the game and I would have backed us to hold out in the
very short remaining time even with the ten men.
The victory was a tribute to the work Gus has done in rebuilding the team. The midfield showed another side to their talents, whereas perhaps we might
have expected them to control more of the ball yesterday, it does look as though there is a lot of goal threat in this unit than we had previously
thought.
Barnes did a thankless job yesterday and so he should get the thanks of every fan for doing so, but I think Murray will perform the lone striker role
better and he will cause defences more problems with his superior range of skills.
When you consider Jamie Smith possibly had two assists yesterday, you can see a higher level of performance here already from the squad players not
guaranteed a start. Smith's performance means we can be more relaxed about waiting for Chris Hughton to give us LuaLua now.

It was definitely a yellow for Ankergren. Austin was heading away from goal and Painter was beyond Ankergren. Danny Wilson has said that it was the
right decision.
