comings and goings

And so the rebuilding begins. I see we have let Dean Cox go which I guess is no surprise as Gus clearly doesn't fancy him going forward.

Although inconsistant, we have all seen Coxy's ability when he is firing on all cylinders so somebody will snap a decent young midfield dynamo there. I hope he goes on to fulfill his full potential.

I don't think he will have any problems getting a new club. It's a shame it didn't work out with us as he is a fan of the club.

Bit gutted by this. Can't say it wasn't on the cards, but I thought he might have flourished under Poyet's style of play. All the best Coxy

Its always sad when such a good young player with potential leaves a club .....but if Gus does not fancy him then off to pastures new.
he will undoubtedly fit in somewhere...possibly PV with Mickey who knows
good luck whatever

Sorry Dean you have issues. The last time you played well was at Southampton, you were monumental in Murrays first goal, you were a little Lua Lua and it was the new managers birthday.Since then you've done nothing better than play in the reserves, a treble the other night, and that's for now where you're best suited. If you sign with Orient or Vale I will truly be gutted and gobsmacked at the same time.

Good Luck btw

Lualua has gone back for this season but talks beginning for next season Albion boss Gus Poyet said: “He is not coming back this season. “Next season depends on many things but, yes, probably we will talk to Newcastle about him, talk with his agent and with the player himself. I think he has done very well with us. He has done everything we expected of him.”

6 youngsters get 1 year pro contracts - Conor Wilkins, George Barker, Lewis Dunk, Jamie Smith, Grant Hall and midfielder Ryan Thomson.

Virgo's gone as well. Bit of a 50:50 decision for me. Nobody can deny his commmitment to the club but is he really Championship class....

his loyalty to the Albion in unquestionable and I'm sure he will be snapped up by another club very quickly.

Dean Cox being released is fine as long as we bring in better players, Lua Lua yes of course but a bit baffled by Andy Drury, although fair enough Gus has made distancing comments from that latter one.

Virgo is pretty unlucky as I'm not 100% convinced Elphick, Tunnicliffe and El Abd are better players but, again, if Gus brings in a Painter/Calderon level player to replace him, no one can argue.

I notice that Gus has given new interviews saying we will not be spending hugely and that it will be very tough to get from the bottom to near the top of the league in a short space of team. This is an interesting correction from Bloom being "disappointed" to make the play-offs. You wonder if the poker player showed his hand a little early and the message now coming out of the club is a wiser one in being more calm about expectations, putting less pressure on players and management and as importantly not inflating the prices of players we are trying to bring in.

Bit of a shocker that Jimmly Mac wants out. I guess he can't associate the club with much positive things happening to him though.

Be a shame to see Jimmy go as he would offer us a good squad option for next season. Just hope the club can recoup the fee we paid for him. To be honest though I prefer Painter as our first choice left back and I hope a deal can be agreed between us. Assuming Calderon signs and Gus can get a decent keeper in we should have the defence covered particularly with the emergence of Lewis Dunk.

Gus is apparently talking to Michel and Liam Dickinson among others tomorrow so it'll be interesting to see who will be prepared to stay and fight for a place and who will seek pastures new...

Loans and injured players

Gus Poyet today clarified the situation for a number of Albion's out-of-contract players, including Gary Hart and Colin Hawkins.

The Albion boss confirmed that Seagulls stalwart Hart, who has been out with a hamstring problem, has been invited to return for pre-season training with the rest of the squad.

Similarly Hawkins, who has been sidelined with an Achilles problem for most of the season, but has now fully recovered, will also be offered the opportunity to join pre-season training - but both players will be able to speak to other clubs and sign elsewhere.

Poyet also confirmed he will meet with out-of-contract goalkeepers Michel Kuipers and Josh Pelling on Friday to discuss their futures, while he will make a decision on Seb Carole's future after Saturday's match against Yeovil.

Elsewhere defender Steve Cook and midfielder Jamie Smith will both be offered new deals, as part of the club's new development squad, but Steve Brinkhurst has been handed a free transfer, joining Adam Virgo and Dean Cox on the released list.

Poyet has also intimated he would be interested in permanent or long-term loan deals with all his loan arrivals: Lee Hendrie, Gavin Hoyte, Ashley Barnes, Kazenga LuaLua and Diego Arismendi are all summer targets.

Albion are still in talks with Inigo Calderon and Marcos Painter of new deals, while goalkeeper Peter Brezovan yesterday signed a new two-year contract with the club.

Meanwhile, Liam Dickinson and Jimmy McNulty both trained with the squad this morning after returning from their respective loan spells at Peterborough and Scunthorpe.

Jake Wright, Andrew Whing and Craig Davies are all under contract, and will return from loan spells at Oxford United, Chesterfield and Port Vale, when those clubs end their respective campaigns.

Wright has one game left, the Football Conference playoff final at Wembley, while Whing and Davies could still be involved in the League Two playoffs, but both clubs need to win and for results elsewhere to go for them this weekend.

Coming - the new kit including a spider man shirt for Brezovan. The pictures don't do it justice, having watched the video of the photo shoot. Interestingly, Calderon and Painter were also photoed in that video. Pics to be released when they've signed?

Yay! Painter has agreed to sign.

Kuipers is to be retained in a non-playing capacity (whatever that entail) or given a free transfer... I know it had to happen some time but I will miss the FDM between the sticks. He has been a terrific servant over the years.

Josh pelling has been released.

Great signing! Chuffed with that and he's only 23 so can only get better.

It's sad about Kuipers but hopefully he'll take the offer of a non-playing deal if he can't find another club.

I was hoping Gus would make a clean sweep of the keepers, not been overly impressed by the options this season. At least the bullet has finally been bitten with Kuipers, probably a few seasons too late, Wilkins I don't think was a fan but those were the days when Knight and Lloyd controlled the ins and outs. Brezovan I think will be OK as a number 2 but would really like to see us bring in someone a bit more reliable as No1.

Painter is a massive signing, once again he oozed class today. Shame about Calderon leaving, but again a bit of a reality check about our ambitions next season, will you still be disappointed by the play-offs Tony Bloom?

Kuipers has signed with Crawley for one year.
Kuipers

It appears we are talking to Crofts about his contract to ward off Norwich

Good move for Kuipers, that. And I'm not being sarcastic, I concede I was not one of his biggest fans since he disrupted the squad at around the same time as the likes of Leon Knight and Kazim-Richards were throwing their toys out of the pram, but Kuipers has now made a shrewd decision to stay within Sussex, help out a Crawley team that has been down on its luck in recent years while staying in contact with the Albion so he can play a role when Falmer comes.

For those of you weighed down with family commitments like me that cannot justify long trips up north to follow the Albion, going to watch the likes of Crawley or Eastbourne is a decent alternative, I'd imagine a few more will do that now with Kuipers playing only half an hour up the road.

Have to say I'm baffled by Norwich's interest in Crofts. But Gus Poyet knows way more about midfielders than me and I'll continue to look and learn.

I'm surprised Kuipers didn't hold out for a move to a League 1 or 2 London side but there you go. Steve Evans seems to have a great job at Crawley keeping them challenging despite a crippling budget.

Looks like Crofts could be off from the Argus report today. Shame in a way as he seemed a good character but if they are offering good money for him with a year left on his contract we should consider it. David Prutton being lined up as replacement seems like good business to me.

I agree. Shame to lose him.
I had to smile when I read all the speculation on why he missed a couple of games and is the move due to that. His child was ill at the time (nothing more sinister than that)
I hope Prutton is a good replacement.

Neither are earth-shattering but certainly Prutton has put in some good displays against us. Put it this way, with Elphick, Whing and Crofts as players of the season, I don't think Prutton would be worried by the high bar at Brighton.

Lets hope we can secure Prutton then as Crofty has gone to Norwich (for a fee rising to £300k). A good bit of business for all concerned providing we can fill that position in middle.

Good luck to Crofts at Norwich.

I agree it's a good deal and hope we can fill the position. It may be optimistic but I am hoping for a push up the table for the new season.

Still League 1 but we're on our way to Wembley. Brighton forever!!
