Evening all
Hi everyone, newby reporting in, been an Albion fan since my first game back in 1963. Good fan up until about 1993 then a Bad fan for quite a few
years, got the 'itch' again in 2006 and have been a STH for the last 2 years along with my 2 Grandsons. Can't wait to get out of Withdean, bring on
Falmer.

Hello newby and welcome. Glad you're back supporting the Albion and may there be many many more like you.

Hi there Clarkie & welcome aboard.
It's good to see you've actually bucked the trend at Withdean & have actually started to go in the last couple of years! It's been a bit of a
painful experience though ain't it (?!) - so here's to better things before we all leave the dump behind, once-&-for-all.
What's your take on the the current state of play with Gus at the helm?

Hello Auntie, I can see a definite improvement in our overall play since Gus has taken over. I like the passing game we are playing now as opposed to
the hoof and run tactics that Slade used. Problem is our defending and, I'm sorry, but I'm not a great fan of FDM in goal, good shot stopper but the
rest of his game leaves a lot to be desired. It's great that Murray seems to have settled down at last and thank god for Nicky Forsters goals. Still
feel we need a midfield general, someone who can tackle, pass and generally motivate the team when things aren't going well, in other words someone
like Nobby Horton. Unfortunately players like him are few and far between.

Hi Wardy, I agree there's gonna have to be thousands like me if we're going to fill Falmer. The trouble is it's going to be like starting from
scratch for a great many as, thanks to Archer & Bellotti and Withdean, we have lost nearly a whole generation of fans. It's a pity our game with
Villa wasn't televised, what a great advert for potential and lapsed Albion fans that would have been. What was that quote from Field of Dreams,
"Build it and they will come", I'm sure they will, but it will still depend on us playing good football as well.

Welcome Clarkie... made me chuckle when I read your name. I remember that chant from the North Stand at the Goldstone after another crunching tackle
from the 'Tank'!
How we could do with that kind of midfield dominance now.
I agree with your comments about a lost generation but I do think the club are doing all they can to win them back with the kids club initiative. I do
agree completely though that if we can put a winning/entertaining side on the park, the fans will come back of their own accord...Withdean or Falmer.

Hi Woody, I think the club are going in the right direction with their kids initiatives, but I think they've got to do a lot more in the way of
marketing the club to entice the stay away fans back. Isn't this the job of Ken Brown?
As for my name, well what can I say, Paul (The Tank)Clark was one of my all time favourite players. He wasn't evil, just a good guy who liked the
more 'physical' side of the game, honest ref!

welcome to the forum
I could not agree with your sentiments more and have been saying(boring) this for ages, we have some that can do part, making the whole but 3 players
to do the job, Hmmm!
I think we suffer from trying to play premiership football(not all that well) in a kick and rush league, the one time we did play exceptionally well
was against Southampton the passing was super against a team coached by someone who knows and dare I say we tore them to pieces.

Hi glasfyn, I was so proud/amazed watching that Southampton game and I know it impressed a lot of the guys I was working with at the time (plastic
Prem fans!). Pity we can't seem to replicate that form against other teams in league 1 who we should be beating easily. Still feel Gus is going in
the right direction but it takes time to build a good team, I would settle for a run of lucky wins at the moment though just to cheer everyone up a
bit.
Oh and anyone who likes the Albion and cats is ok by me.

Like you, I think we're heading in the right direction with a far more pronounced 'passing game', but there is a part of me that worries about the
effectiveness of such an approach if we're still in & around the dreaded Drop Zone in six weeks time. I'm not suggesting for one moment that it
isn't the way I prefer the game to be played; nor do I think it won't prove to be successful: however I do wonder whether the teams we need to take
points off (in order to make our L1 status safe) will punish us with their more direct, 'robust' approach. I guess time & results will tell on that
score, but I don't think I my ticker can handle a repeat of last year's end-of-season shenannigans!
Anyway, here's to the team building on the general quality of the last few performances, & the front pair rediscovering their goal-scoring prowess -
starting at Orient on Saturday.

Amen to those sentiments, and I agree it is a worry about the 'more robust' teams which is why I feel we need a midfield general. One man can change
a team, the problem is finding him. The one good sign is that teams like Southampton and Leeds are playing a good passing game and still managing to
beat the cloggers.

I remember Paul Clarke, but when you refer to the Tank only one player comes to mind and that was Des Tennant, who was with us some years before
Paul.
Des had a habit of following his opponent right up to the goal line and then easing him into the boards behind the goal
