It is an odd situation, I'm fairly confident we will see him at his best in the stripes next year.

Oh dear I wish I had you optimism Drunstick. Pretty much seems as though the club has gone back on its word not to activate the extra year unless he was willing. I imagine he is furious with the club.

He might calm down of course.

Just shows the level we are at, everything is about money now. Shown by the very high match day prices we've just announced, the club are going to squeeze every bit of income out of everything that walks and talks at the club, including a transfer fee for this genuis of a player.

very much this
Vicente would be a coup this season but if it means he is at odds with the club because of the second season option being implimented by the club then best we get a transfer fee.

I am sure Gus will be looking elsewhere already:smug:

I think the club did the right thing in activating the second year clause. Vicente knew that he had signed that agreement last year, and with the club working so hard to get him fit again, I think were entitled to say, that if he wants to go to another club, they'll have to pay for him.
We either get Vicente back or money for him. Win win situation.

Not sure if I agree. Vicente is a superb player at Championship level and one of the best players I have seen play for the stripes. However if he wants to move back to Spain, we should let him go and move on. I'm concerned that this might destablilise an important summer of transfer dealings for us if it drags on for much longer. I'd love it if Gus can talk Vicente round but if he has family issues that has always got to take priority for him. The club is changing now to a more business like (and ruthless) operation for better or worse.

Such a shame if we never see him in the blue and white again. Time to move on. New signings on the way.

quote from the homepage

Seagulls star Vicente will return to Brighton this weekend to begin pre-season training with Albion this week.

The Spaniard has yet to return to the club due to family reasons, but will return to Sussex tomorrow and link up with the squad for training on Monday.

Albion boss Gus Poyet said, "I'm absolutely delighted to say that Vicente will be with us next season and to know he will be part of the squad is fantastic news for the club and our supporters.

"Too much has been made of the situation but Vicente's had some personal issues to resolve before being able to return to England; nothing to do with football or financial issues.

"These issues have been resolved now and everyone is happy. I'm sure, like me, the fans are now looking forward to seeing him back in a Brighton & Hove Albion shirt during pre-season and in the Championship."

Was rather hoping some kind of press release on the OS from Vicente talking about coming back or something.

I hate this idea that he is here because he has to be and he doesn't want to be.

I don't get that impression tbh. Gus said it was for personal reasons, and I've no reason to doubt him. I wouldn't believe agents or a club in Spain who were hoping to get something for nothing. Gus had already said he was 95% certain V would be back and he is.
Pure speculation on my part but there may have been difficulties with the baby or birth and he needed longer with his family?
