Ipswich - a little change in style

Fantastic result today to avenge the 3-0 at their place.

I tend to think we've had the luck in our recent run with ref decisions and certain incidents and I think it held today when we went ahead in the first half, given that Ipswich were playing well and possibly edging the game.

What was interesting though was that Ipswich were pressing us very high up the pitch but perhaps in doing that were leaving a lot of space between their keeper and back 4.

Whether it was smart tactics by Gus or just good initiative by our players, we played a lot more direct balls over the top today and it allowed us to make the telling blows. It's very much as Wardywonderland's signature says in the Bobby Robson quote, unless you are genuises of the likes of Barca, a team of our level should be tactically flexible and employ both passing and direct tactics. So big credit to us for getting that tactically right.

Was also very pleased that CMS started as I do feel his running gives us an extra dimension over the more static Vokes. Barnes' recent run of good form also allowed him to get his just desserts today in front of goal.

It is also pleasing that Gus has tempered his very rigid opinion of the loan system because the superb Razak and the slippery Assulin could be the key to getting us into the top 6.

Today was far from a perfect performance despite the scoreline and we need to look at improving our short passing game as we were fortunate to survive all the pressure Ipswich put on us.

Mattock and Reyes are making a difference but still not totally convinced by the balance of midfield and whether Navarro and Bridcutt are our best partnership. I really hope we get to see Forster-Caskey again soon because him and Razak together could frighten even the really big teams in this league.

Today has been everything I love as an Albion fan. My dear friends 80th birthday party (lunch in the East stand) followed by a resounding victory and a great party to follow. Happy Birthday Connie and well done the Albion.

Good bounce back after last Sunday. Able to field 5 premiership players today, but a shame that they are only here on loan.

I didn't manage to get to this game...it sounds like the loanees made a diffrence.

I wonder if it would be possible to sign some of them permenantly in th summer? (I particulary like the look of Mattock from what I have seen so far).

Great win lads!

I got the impression that the full back were loans with a view to buy.

Great day and great win against an in form Ipswich. That was arguably our best performance this season and it showed when we click we can beat anyone in this league. The first goal was the turning point after Ipswich showed their attacking threat in the first half and Greer did the business off the line. Delighted CMS got his goal for all the selfless running he does. After that Razak, Bridcutt and Navarro (My MOM) really started dominating in midfield. One of the few downers for me this season is having to sit in front of some complete idiot who takes pleasure in watching Ashley Barnes struggle at times. He didn't have his best game on the ball but to hear the abuse he got from this low life beggars belief. I took particular delight (as did most of the West Stand Lower) laughing and cheering at him when Barnes first and then second goals went in. Both good strikers finishes that show he has more than enough ability to play at this level. Gus obviously loves the selfless defensive play he produces everyt week and the way he follows his instructions. Less said about the Ipswich banner the better. Their fans seemed pretty embaressed about it after the game.

Dominated the midfield? The last half hour when Ipswich's heads dropped, maybe... But agreed the first goal was crucial given Ipswich's almost kamikaze pressing tactics, a Hull nil-niller it was never going to be.

The two WBA lads hopefully, bit too much of a stretch to go Man City to the Albion alas but hopefully that's the bit of the loan market we can operate in for the future.

It makes me feel good all over when my mates are all happy! I think we should win more often if just for that alone.
